The Matraea Centre
The Matraea Centre, located in the heart of Duncan, British Columbia, is a unique maternity resource and family health centre catering especially to pregnant women and families through an array of health and wellness services. The Centre is stroller and wheelchair accessible via a dedicated ramp within the courtyard.
In 2011, Registered Midwives Selina Boily and Kate Koyote re-purposed BCTEL's 1923 home as a , welcoming environment for families to connect to as a community resource. The Matraea Centre's rustic red brick walls, stunning original art and peaceful, private courtyard in which clients and patients relax, picnic with little ones, and catch-up with other families, reflect the midwives' careful design, intention and commitment to creating a Centre that has become a cornerstone of maternity care in the Cowichan.
The focus of the Matraea Centre is on collaborative, high-quality holistic care. Home to the Cowichan Valley's Registered Midwives, who between them deliver nearly half of all the babies in the valley, the Centre provides a range of health and wellness services including naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, counselling as well as pre-natal education, pre-and post-natal fitness classes, and more. Although many of the services provided by the Centre's Practitioners require private payment, maternity services provided by Registered Midwives have been fully-funded by BC's MSP since 1998.
Celebrating its 7th Anniversary March 1st, 2018, The Matraea Centre continues to make a home the Matraea Birth Shop, a Mama and Baby eco-boutique, where you can browse a comprehensive selection of organic and natural products for the peri-natal period.
Embracing wellness, family, and community, we invite you to visit and explore our products and services.
