BORN HEATHY

Born Healthy is a Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) funded through the Public Health Agency of Canada. Born Healthy provides education and support to at-risk pregnant women and new mothers (women with babies up to one year old) living in the Ladysmith area (including Yellowpoint, Saltair and Cassidy). A primary objective of the program is to provide services to reduce the incidence of low birth weight babies. In the last year, Born Healthy provided service to a total of 24 women and their families. This number represents approximately 20% of the total births in the Ladysmith area. In general the women who access Born Healthy are young and have a low income. Most women require food vouchers, prenatal vitamins and supplement their food through the use of the food bank.
