Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society

The most common way we work with our clients is one-on-one -meeting for coffee or talking on the phone. We are mobile are can meet caregivers in their homes or in the community. Our facilitators assess the caregiving family to determine how to support them appropriately. Caregivers can participate in regular support groups held in Duncan, Chemainus and Ladysmith. In support groups, caregivers in similar situations share experiences, resources, information and strategies, and have an opportunity for social connection. Our facilitators help caregivers with emotional support, navigating the health care system, and finding additional community resources to assist them to continue caregiving. For caregivers with more complex issues, we have a professional counsellor on staff. In our Support Circles, we connect caregivers with formal and informal community resources to create a web of support for their caregiving journey. We work closely with Island Health, Home and Community Care, Cowichan District Hospital and other facilities from Mill Bay to Ladysmith.
